Which insurances reimburse ASCA and RME in 2026?

Published on March 29, 2026 · 8 min read

“Does my insurance cover this?” — that’s the question your patients ask most often. And the answer depends on their supplementary insurance contract, your certification register (ASCA, RME, EMR) and your discipline.

This guide lists the main Swiss supplementary insurances that reimburse ASCA and RME therapists in 2026, with coverage levels, conditions and advice for informing your patients.

How does reimbursement work?

Complementary therapies are not covered by LAMal (basic insurance). Reimbursement goes exclusively through supplementary insurance (LCA). The level of reimbursement depends on three factors:

  • The patient’s contract: each insurer offers different levels of supplementary coverage
  • Your certification: ASCA, RME or EMR — some insurers only accept one register
  • Your discipline: not all disciplines are reimbursed by all insurers

Main insurances and their coverage

InsuranceASCARMETypical coverage
VisanaYesYes75% up to CHF 5,000/year
SwicaYesYes50-90% depending on COMPLETA product
HelsanaYesYes75% up to CHF 5,000/year (TOP/COMPLETA)
CSSYesYes75% up to CHF 5,000/year
Groupe MutuelYesYes70-80% up to CHF 3,000-5,000/year
ConcordiaYesYes80% up to CHF 5,000/year (NATURA)
SanitasYesYes75% up to CHF 3,000/year
AssuraYesYesVariable depending on supplementary plan chosen

Important: these amounts are indicative and vary depending on the insurance product taken out by the patient. Exact conditions are found in the general terms and conditions (GTC) of each contract.

ASCA vs RME: impact on reimbursement

The good news: in 2026, virtually all supplementary insurances recognise both ASCA and RME. The choice of register therefore has little impact on your patients’ reimbursement.

However, some differences remain: ASCA covers a larger number of disciplines (~130), while RME imposes more structured continuing education requirements. If you’re hesitating between the two, see our detailed ASCA vs RME comparison.

Common reimbursement conditions

For the patient to be reimbursed, the following conditions are generally required:

  • The therapist is ASCA or RME certified with a valid RCC number
  • The practised discipline is covered by the patient’s contract
  • The invoice is Tarif 590 compliant (DataMatrix, QR-Invoice, correct tariff code)
  • The patient’s annual cap has not been reached
  • Some insurers require a medical prescription for certain disciplines

Tips for informing your patients

  • Advise prior verification: invite each new patient to check their coverage with their insurer before the first session
  • Mention your certifications: clearly indicate “ASCA” and/or “RME” on your website, business cards and invoices
  • Invoice quickly and correctly: a compliant invoice sent promptly speeds up the patient’s reimbursement
  • Explain the process: the patient pays for the session, sends the invoice to their insurer, and receives reimbursement within 2-4 weeks

Always compliant invoices

Therago generates Tarif 590 compliant invoices with DataMatrix, QR-Invoice and pre-configured tariff codes. Your patients receive invoices that insurers accept the first time, which speeds up their reimbursement and strengthens your credibility.
